The Waterloo Historical Society has published an annual volume since 1913. A copy is included with membership to the Society, but can also be purchased by the general public. The illustrated volume is 192 pages in length.

In 1993 the Waterloo Historical Society received the
Scadding Award of Excellence from the Ontario Historical Society in recognition of their outstanding contribution in the field of history.

The 2006 annual volume features Carl Ahrens on the front and back covers. The article on him is about 6,000 words in length and is written by Ahrens' great granddaughter, Kim Bullock. The majority of the color pages are dedicated to Ahrens' artwork.
