Back to Carl Ahrens Day Photo Gallery

In about 1915 there appeared the following blurb in a Toronto newspaper - "Broadus Farmer,
the well-known Toronto violinist, now plays on an instrument on the back of which Carl Ahrens,
the distinguished Canadian painter, has executed a charming little landscape as a compliment
to Mr. Farmer. The instrument, which is of fine tone, is of Canadian make and was built by Wm.
Knaggs of Toronto."

The current owner of this violin, a Waterloo resident, happened upon the Carl Ahrens Day event
at the very end of the show. Until that time she had not known anything about the history of
her instrument, or anything about the artist who painted the landscape. It is a one of a kind
piece and the owner has kindly allowed me to share an image of it here.
