The Walper Terrace Hotel in Kitchener,
Ontario. There has been a hotel on this site at
the corner of King and Queen Streets since nearly
the beginning of the history of the town. Carl
Ahrens' great grandfather, Frederick Gaukel, owned
the original Gaukel's Inn. The current building was
completed in 1893, and was at that time a 4 story
hotel. The fifth floor was added at a later time.

The hotel has hosted many famous people over
the years, such as the Queen Mother, all of Canada's
Prime Ministers, Eleanor Roosevelt, Bob Hope,
James Brown, Tony Bennett, Louis Armstrong and
many others.

Kim did not stay at this hotel on the 2004 trip
to Kitchener, though she and her cousin ate
at the Rum Runner several times. Kim did
stay at the Walper during her time in Kitchener
in April 2007.
