Note: It is highly likely that Carl used
Madonna (his wife) as a live model and
simply changed her facial features. It is
known that she posed nude for him, and
highly unlikely that he asked anyone else
to do so. He used a little statue as a model for another nude, but this figure is not in the same position. While he was initially known as a portrait painter, he did not enjoy painting figures, particularly women. That makes this a rare find.
